It's My Health Wellcare Collaborative Its Spring! How should my diet change? Throughout the cold, dull winter our bodies crave heavy foods in order to keep warm. We like roasts and root veggies and gravies and such. With the onset of spring though our bodies will want to lighten the load in preparation for summertime and bathing suits. Spring is also the natural time of year to detox and rid ourselves of extra layers of fat and accumulated toxins. To this end it is a great time to re-introduce lots of color and variety to our diets to boost antioxidants and boost the metabolism. Here are a few of my favorites: Bitter greens like dandelion leaves, escarole, broccoli rabe and kale are great for cleansing the kidneys and liver. Other greens like arugula, Romaine, and red leaf lettuce are anti-in ammatory. Mint contains an antioxidant called rosemarinic acid that can help with spring allergies. Spring onions reduce oxidative stress on the body and they can help with spring allergies. Beets are great for the blood and circulation as well as the liver. Radishes help rid the body of excess water so they are great for the kidneys and urinary tract. Whether you like them fat or skinny, asparagus are loaded with antioxidants and are good for blood pressure, the kidneys, and even brain health. Variety is the spice of life. Eat well and enjoy the fruits and the bene ts of the season! 1099 Mendon Road Cumberland, RI (401) 305-3585 Q: A:
