With Mother Nature making the final days of summer miserable and pulling the plug on a lot of outdoor sporting events, here's a good chance to do a little fall cleaning in my office, not just at my desk, but in some notes that I have stashed away and scattered around my workspace ...

• Once again, a good percentage of the Rhode Island College women’s tennis team is from our readership, and leading the locals this fall are RIC’s second doubles team of senior Isabella Romeo of...

It’s awfully hard to believe, but the summer’s going to be over in just a few weeks, and if there’s one indication that we’re down to the final days, it’s going to come on Monday when the 14 high schools in our area kick off workouts for the fall high school sports season. (Football got a head start on Aug. 10).

There are going to be a lot of great storylines over the next 12 weeks, as well quite a few teams who could enjoy championship glory later this fall. The best bet of the bunch...

On a weekend where the state's Little League and American Legion champions are going to be crowned, here's a quick baseball-only blogpost ...

• Five local collegiate players are enjoying excellent summers in the New England Collegiate Baseball League and the Futures Collegiate Baseball League of New England, with the best of the bunch being Lincoln’s Mason Palmieri, who is having a superb summer with the FCBL’s Brockton Rox. In nine appearances, eight of them starts...

Doing a little post-Memorial Day weekend cleaning around the office, and here are some thoughts, unused notes, and emails I read that I’m going to squish into a blog post …

• Best local bets to capture championships these next two weeks?

In softball, Scituate’s an easy lock to win the Division III title – the Spartans are currently 17-0 and has outscored their opposition, 227-23, and all signs are pointing to North Smithfield vs. Mount Saint Charles in a slugfest for the...

During my month-long absence from the blogosphere – wow, it’s been that long since I’ve blogged? – I made the most of a rare Wednesday off by taking a 75-minute drive last week to Hartford for a 10:30 a.m. baseball game, between the second-year Hartford Yard Goats, the Double-A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, and the Boston Red Sox’s Portland Sea Dogs, at the Goats’ brand new Dunkin’ Donuts Park.

Boy, the place is impressive!

Everything about the ballpark – from the easy...

A Happy Belated Anniversary goes out to the Blackstone Valley Spinners AAU Baseball Club, which last Wednesday, March 29, celebrated the 10th anniversary of the very first game ever played by one of its teams.

The Spinners’ first team was an U10 squad that played in a season-opening tournament at the Baseball Heaven complex in Long Island N.Y. According to the Spinners’ founder, John Bacon, Lincoln’s Justin Conti, who is currently pitching for Rhode Island College, singled home the...

Back from celebrating my birthday during a week’s vacation in sunny Barcelona, and a few thoughts/notes as we head into the hectic 72-day stretch known as the spring sports season:

• Yes, Spain is very, very big into soccer (or, as they call it, “fútbol”). It has six channels on television solely devoted to the sport; you can’t turn your head without seeing a fútbol billboard or advertisement, someone wearing fútbol apparel, or a kid kicking a ball, and the country is home to two of...

Seeing how my first blog post drew a lot of attention, here’s another one …

• Two years after establishing herself as a two-sport professional athlete in Spain, playing basketball for CB Prat-Aigues in the Liga Espanola de Baloncesto and softball for Viladecans in the Spanish National League, former North Providence High and Rhode Island College hoop star Stephanie Coro is enjoying her “dream-come-true” role as the assistant director of operations for the University of Rhode Island...

I’ve been wanting to join the blogosphere at the Valley Breeze for quite some time now. I’ve also been wanting to do something with all the valuable post-its, scribbles from my notepad, emails, and other things that never made it into print, but collected on my desk.

Well, here’s a chance to kill two birds with one stone ...

• Once in a while, a reader will share a "blast from the past" picture with me, and while I get a kick out of them, at the bottom of this blog is the best...
