Pincince will host ‘Christmas spectacular’ Dec. 17

Noel Pincince will offer a holiday radio show on WNRI on Monday, Dec. 17, from 6 to 9 p.m.

WOONSOCKET – One of the city’s favorite holiday performers is taking to the airwaves for the second time to raise funds for Woonsocket’s most vulnerable residents.

Noel Pincince will host his second annual holiday radio show on WNRI station on Monday, Dec. 17, from 6 to 9 p.m. As part of the program, Pincince is asking listeners to donate $30 for charity in the weeks ahead and hear their names announced during the broadcast as benefactors.

“It’s time to donate now. And, if God has been good to you and you want to send a little bit more than $30, then that’s good,” he told The Breeze last week.

Last year, Pincince raised funds for New Beginnings soup kitchen, located in the basement of All Saints Church, during the first holiday broadcast. This year, he plans to donate funds to the Woonsocket Police Department Toy Drive, a more than 20-year-old collection that kicked off on Nov. 24.

“I’m going to give them a good check to start the toy drive for next year,” said Pincince. “Right now, they’re doing very well, but you know you need a good kick to get going for 2019.”

Listeners, he said, can expect “an inspirational Christmas spectacular” that will feature vintage classics from favorite holiday performers such as Nat King Cole, Barbra Streisand, Dean Martin and Kate Smith, along with local favorites by the Rev. Andre Patenaude, better known as La Salette Shrine’s Father Pat. For the special occasion, he also plans to break out recordings of Woonsocket’s own St. Louis Chorale, a group he directed for close to three decades.

“I’m going to do some Hebrew, I’m going to do some French, I’m going to do some Italian songs,” he said. “Wrap your gifts, listen, pay attention, and it’ll bring back some beautiful memories.”

Pincince is known throughout the city for his many roles over the decades, from operating his father’s shoe store, Phil’s Shoe Store, to serving as host at Bellingham’s Coachmen’s Lodge, but is perhaps best known for his love of the holiday for which he is named. Pincince, who was born on Christmas day, said the show, co-hosted with WNRI General Manager Roger Bouchard, will include stories and reminiscing on Woonsocket’s holiday customs of previous years.

The show will air on WNRI 1380 AM and 95.1 FM and stream live on www.wnri.com. Listeners can mail donations in the form of a check to WNRI, 786 Diamond Hill Road, attention: Noel Pincince.
