William L. Mardsen Jr

William L. Mardsen Jr., 69, of Cumberland, passed away Sunday, November 4, 2018, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Jeanne (DeLisle) Marsden.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of the late Dr. William L. and Dorothy (Hyatt) Marsden. He resided in Cumberland for the past 19 years, previously residing in Middle Island, Long Island, N.Y.

Following high school, William entered the United States Marines, serving during the Vietnam era.

Mr. Marsden was most recently employed as a bus driver for Durham Services in Cumberland for many years. He was previously a self-employed contractor. He was also past president of the Middle Island School District School Board serving for a total of nine years. He was a strong advocate for Special Needs Education. He also served as a campaign chairman for the Independence Party in New York.

Bill enjoyed interacting with children as a bus driver, tinkering, woodworking, spending time with his family and especially being "Pop Pop" to his grandchildren.

In addition to his beloved wife, he leaves his two sons, William L. Marsden III and Justin J. Marsden and his wife, Brooke, all of Long Island, N.Y.; his grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Reagan, Brady and Harrison; his sister, Kathy M. Mackey, and her husband, Jerry, of Lisle, N.Y.; his brother-in-law, Dr. Gregory Kenney; his sister-in-law, Terry C. Marsden; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Judy M. Kenney and Robert H. Marsden.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Bill's Life Celebration to be held with visiting hours on Friday, November 9, from 7 to 9 p.m., and continue on Saturday, November 10, at 10 a.m., in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. A prayer service will be held at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the American Lung Association, 260 W Exchange St, Providence, RI 02903 and the American Cancer Society, 931 Jefferson Blvd, Warwick, RI 02886.
