N. Providence police investigating after shots fired in Shaw's parking lot

NORTH PROVIDENCE – Police are investigating after shots were fired at the Shaw's Plaza Tuesday morning. No one was believed to be injured in the incident.

At approximately 10:45 a.m., North Providence officers responded to a call of shots fired at the plaza, located at 15 Smithfield Road.

The incident is still under investigation, say police, but the initial investigation revealed that a white SUV described as a late model Ford Edge with out-of-state registration plates, possibly Massachusetts, and dark-colored sedan were in the parking lot of Shaw’s when shots were fired from one of the vehicles. As the suspect vehicles fled the scene, the white SUV collided with another vehicle in the parking lot before it left the scene heading south on Douglas Avenue toward Providence at a high rate of speed. The White SUV sustained heavy front-end damage.

Detectives are investigating, including interviewing witnesses and following up on leads. At this time there are no reported injuries from the incident.

Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to contact the North Police Detective Division at 401-231-4533 ext. 136.
