N.S.’s Raskob receives LEC women’s tennis rookie honor

Former North Smithfield High standout Hailey Raskob, shown in action during a match last year with the Northmen, is now playing for the Rhode Island College women’s tennis team.

PROVIDENCE – North Smithfield’s Hailey Raskob, a freshman on the Rhode Island College women’s tennis team, was recently named the Little East Conference Women’s Tennis Rookie of the Week for her dominant performance in a two-win week for the Anchorwomen.

Raskob went 2-0, picking up wins at number four and five singles respectively, as RIC downed Suffolk, 9-0, on Sept. 5 and Plymouth State, 8-1, last Saturday.

She defeated SU’s Keely Hardy (6-2, 6-1) and the Panthers’ Megan Wheeler (6-0, 6-0) to raise her record to 4-0 on the season.

Raskob, who graduated from North Smithfield High this past spring, was a four-time First-Team All-Division selection during her fabulous career with the Northmen, as well as a Second-Team All-State player her freshman year.

She also helped the Northmen win the Division III championship in 2014 and ‘15.

The Anchorwomen, who are coached by Adam Spring, headed into this week with an overall record of 4-0 and a 1-0 mark in conference play.
