Master Gardener Spilka wins eight more ribbons

NORTH PROVIDENCE – Aaron Spilka, a 24-year University of Rhode Island Master Gardener and landscaper who lives at 20 Angelo Ave., won eight ribbons out of his 14 entries at the Washington County Fair in Richmond this summer.

Spilka, a self-employed landscaper who uses organic practices, runs Aaron’s Rototilling and Gardening Service. He won first place for orange and red marigolds, first for alyssum, second place for two blue hydrangea, second place for French yellow petite marigolds and third place for one blue hydrangea, third place for yellow tuberous begonias and third place for dwarf dahlias.

Spilka said regular watering every morning and weeding and pruning dead flowers helped get him the wins. He also fertilized twice with expert soluble plant food.
